Currently teaching piano at an after-school program and now available for ages 5-99, Learn beginner piano skills, sight reading, and playing piano. Classical, praise and worship, hymns, etc. Lessons held at studio on upright piano. Learn how to compose music and use your play - by - ear skills. Learn at your own pace. Must have piano or keyboard or access to one for optimum results. Piano recital at end of sessions or when ready.

For the past two years, some Newport County Children have been learning how to play the piano in a after school program. The children have been learning how to play familiar songs and some classical music which have served to make them more disciplined. The program has been gaining in popularity and now the teacher is expanding the program for other students throughout Aquidneck Island.

Kids Create Music School will be holding half - hour piano lessons from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. These one – on – one lessons will begin immediately and will continue throughout the school year. This will give children an opportunity to perfect their piano playing skills in the privacy of a music studio. The lessons are open to adults as well. I will be opening a music school when I have 20 students.

Students at the after school program have done very well, considering the fact that most do not have access to a piano at home. They have learned one song per week and have been able to perform at a recital for their parents at the end of the six or seven week program. No matter what skill level, each student has been able to learn to play all of the songs. The new program will give them an opportunity to learn to play the songs of Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart and participate in a piano competition at the end of one year in the program.

In addition to playing the songs, the students will learn about each of the piano players and composers in an effort to understand how these men came to be piano masters. In spite of their hardships, these men were able to become distinguished and accomplished players, whose musical compositions have endured for more than one century. Hearing about their lives will encourage these children to live out their own dreams with outstanding examples of hard work and a determination for excellence as seen in each of these masters.

Offering piano at this after school program has attracted children with various skill levels, problems, and challenges which seem to disappear because of the commitment that the children make in mastering their lessons. Many of the children have overcome their problems with behavior, bad attitudes, and disabilities, to being able to play the piano and to play songs they never believed possible. They leave the program with more confidence in their abilities. The goal is to make the program more challenging by giving them an opportunity to spend more time learning the more difficult pieces, so that they can learn other skills such as completing tasks, not accepting mediocrity in their work, developing tolerance for other cultures, discipline, and improving their mathematical skills.

Now offering a marketing class, "Marketing for Musicians" for anyone who would like to learn how to market themselves in order to gain new students, new gigs, or other performance opportunities. 8 classes $425.00 + $35 registration fee.

Gail Cavanaugh, an independent life insurance agent, is the owner of Gail Cavanaugh’s Financial Solutions. She has been teaching piano at an after school program at a local school for the last two years in Newport, RI. Anyone interested in enrolling in the program should call Gail Cavanaugh at 401-380-7850 right away, as there is only space for twelve students.

I am in the process of writing a book about piano playing. Let me know if there is anything you would like me to include. Here is a link to the project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/741407904/beyond-my-imagination. Please support it and tell all of your friends.
