Details:Experience the ways sound and space interact in the Gardner’s first exhibition of sound art. Listen Hear: The Art of Sound features installations throughout the Museum and beyond its walls, inspiring new ways to experience the galleries and making sonic connections to the surrounding neighborhood. Listen Hear presents ten works by emerging and established artists who approach sound from very different angles.

Sound Lab – Series Event

Artist Elisa Hamilton presents an interactive, community listening experience in Calderwood Hall as part of the special exhibition Listen Hear: the Art of Sound. Visitors are invited to delve into a custom vinyl record archive celebrating the unique sounds created by neighboring community groups in Roxbury, Mission Hill, and Hyde Square - Boston’s Latin Quarter. This original installation was developed in collaboration with youth from Hyde Square Task Force, Roxbury Youth Orchestra, Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers, and the AiLi series at Haley House Bakery Café.

Activities are designed for ages 7 and up. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Join artists and creative thinkers for a discussion about the art of sound. What impact can artists achieve using sound versus other media? How does sound shape our experience of place? What are the different ways that artists work with sound as a medium?
