Schola Cantorum presents "The Folly of Love," featuring Lasso's motets and chansons, de Rore's madrigals and playful giddy villanelle for Carnivale season. Lasso wrote widely in many styles, from earthy, profane madrigals and chansons to the most serious Latin sacred music. Schola sings Lasso's grand Magnificat based on de Rore's madrigal “Ancor che col partire”.
For the past 25 years, Schola Cantorum has been recognized for lively and evocative performances of Renaissance sacred cusic. Singing without a conductor, the group brings intimacy and excitement to this lovely repertoire. Their vocal polish and agility will amuse and delight you. With Joel Cohen, Schola Cantorum has performed at Tanglewood and served as the chorus for the Boston Camerata, winning several prizes for recordings ranging from Early American Shaker Music to Spanish Music from the New World. Schola Cantorum has also sung at the Boston Early Music Festival.
Founder and Director Frederick Jodry has been acclaimed as an organist and singer, and since 1991 as the conductor of the Brown University Chorus. |
