Details:Join us as we celebrate Black History Month with the first event in our spring series collaboration with the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities titled, 50 Years On: Reflections on Race, Racism and the Legacies of the 1967 Detroit Riots. Coordinated around the visit to MSU on April 3, 2017, by the award-winning writer and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates as part of the World View Lecture Series, the Broad MSU is offering a series of programs that promote discussion about the burden of racism in American society. Join us for our first installment of three conversations centered around a work from our collection. Featuring Assistant Curator, Carla Acevedo-Yates, along with special guest Jena Baker-Calloway of the MSU Detroit Center, who will use the work of Detroit Artist, Tyree Guyton as a departure point for their conversation. Jena Baker-Calloway grew up in Detroit and graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Sociology and a master's degree from the University of Michigan's School of Public Health. Support for this program provided by the MSU Creating Inclusive Excellence Grant/Office for Inclusion.
