Up to 80% of the information you take in each day is processed through your eyes. Now, imagine your day if you were living with limited or no vision. How would you read this letter, pour yourself a cup of coffee, or get to and from work? These are a few of the many challenges thousands of residents in our community face each day.
The Grand Rapids Lions Club is proud to present the 12th Annual Blind Dinner Date. Please join us and help children and adults meet challenges caused by their vision loss so they can live independently, confidently, and with dignity. 100% of funds raised through the Blind Dinner Date will benefit local residents assisted by the following non-profit service providers: Grand Rapids Lions Club Vision Clinic at Cherry Health, Ken-O-Sha Early Vision Program, Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Grand Rapids Lions Fund at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation.
We invite you to join us for an evening with drinks, dinner and lively conversation. You’ll also hear the inspiring story of Bill Robinson’s – the new Director of the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons – journey from vision loss to independence. We will also recognize the achievements of several professionals from the eye care community.

Founded in 1919 as the Downtown Grand Rapids Lions Club, our members have established an unprecedented track record of service to the Grand Rapids community which now extends more than nine decades. While many of our efforts and programs have centered on support for the visually impaired, we’ve also worked hard over the years to provide needed assistance to many other individuals and groups.
The goal of our club’s efforts is to provide support—financial and otherwise—to our designated charities and programs. We do this by conducting fundraising events, the profits from which are distributed at the direction of our Board of Directors. Since 2004, our club has distributed more than $1,000,000 to local, national and international charitable causes.
Community service has a long and honored tradition in the history of our nation, a tradition that’s been at the heart of American civic culture since the nation was founded. Whether through town hall meetings, professional service clubs, local school boards, political parties, or hospital auxiliaries, Americans have felt and acted on the need to give something back to their communities.
And that’s how we, as members of the Grand Rapids Lions feel also. Because we benefit individually from the opportunities and resources provided by our community we, in turn, feel a strong responsibility to repay those opportunities and blessings with service to the needs of others.
