Every 67 seconds, someone in America develops Alzheimer's. By mid-century, someone in America will develop the disease every 33 seconds. It is estimated that nearly 500,000 new cases of Alzheimer's disease will be diagnosed this year. Arizona lacks an appropriate healthcare system infrastructure in which individuals with dementia can receive on-going rehabilitative supportive services to achieve a better life quality.
Studies indicate that care homes provide 2 minutes of active engagement each day. OAKWOOD IS TELLING A DIFFERENT STORY>>
OCC has two DAY CLUBS offering nonpharmacologic therapeutic (therapies not based on medication alone) approaches to help manage complex behaviors and improve the quality of life of persons with dementia. Our approaches are wide ranging and include environmental redesign, the use of music, art, exercise, touch and/or other sensory-based strategies, caregiver training, community events, woodworking, friendship, volunteerism, gardening, and cognitive therapies.
Our programs are research-based, cutting edge, person-directed care model focusing on strengths, interests, and wellness. We have created a physical and emotional environment wherein each individual can feel they belong, contribute, are safe, and have opportunities for success and wellness. Our professional staff and therapies are provided and as a result are increasing strength, balance, motor skills, and improving cognitively, behaviorally, and emotionally.
OCC employs the latest information and methodologies to maintain or improve the overall health of our members. Research studies demonstrate the importance of activities that provide benefits in one of three areas: physical, sensory, or psychological. Our innovative program brings in some of the best therapies offered in the state.
