New Natural History February 23, 2008 - May 11, 2008
Inspired by science and armed with a keen eye for observation, many of Maine's contemporary artists are drawn to the world of natural history. The 29 works selected for this exhibition begin with references to older forms of scientific inquiry, but quickly move into the realm of the modern in conception—from Mary Hart’s representations of the natural world in exacting detail to Lauren Fensterstock’s works made from butterfly wings. Photographers Gary Green and Tom Birtwistle further present an ironic twist on traditional forms of natural history. paper.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial Day through Columbus Day, the museum is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
