| Details: | Throughout its 250 years of history, America has been blessed with great poets, whose prophetic voices have inspired us to seek "the better angels of our nature." The works on our program feature the words of Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes, set to dramatic and lyrical music by American composers, including Howard Hanson, Ola Gjeilo, and John Michael Trotta, and accompanied by an ensemble of piano, strings, and percussion. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, "the mystic chords...will yet swell the chorus." |
