Details:West Brattleboro -- Images of birds and other wildlife taken by David Y. Parker, Jr. of Brookline, Vt., are showing in the foyer and other gallery spaces at All Souls Church through the end of April. The public is invited to an artist's reception on Saturday, March 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., offering both sweet and savory treats. This gathering offers a convenient opportunity for visitors to ask the photographer about his artistic approach and camera techniques.

David Parker is a retired educator and photographer with a lifelong interest in birds and other wildlife. His photographs, which have been displayed at numerous galleries in southern Vermont over the past two years, capture in stunning focus the beauty, intricacy, and grace of the natural world that surrounds a small pond on his property.

David shares that "the two most important components of photographing wildlife are time and patience. The more time you spend quietly observing your surroundings, the more you will see. I usually dedicate three to four hours each day outdoors, watching what is happening around my property with camera in hand. The longer and more frequently that you observe animal behavior, the better able you are to anticipate what a bird or other creature may do next."

All Souls Church, aka West Village Meeting House, is at 29 South Street, across the road from the new West Brattleboro fire station and village common, a bit over a mile west of Exit 2 off I-91 along Rt. 9. Follow the wooded church driveway across from the fire station up to a large parking area. The facility is handicap-accessible; turn right on a paved lane at the top of the drive to reach a few handicap parking spots near the building's two ramped entrances.

The gallery is open weekday mornings, 9:00 to noon, during worship services and other public events in the building, or by appointment. For further information, call the church office at (802) 254-9377.
