| Details: | On Sat Oct 5, Rockin’ 4 Vets brings a new project “Blues Blowout” to Byfield Community Arts Center, in Byfield, MA, headlined by Frankie Boy & the Blues Express with New England Blues Legend, James Montgomery, sitting in. Rounding out this great bill will be the Matt Swanton Band.
Frankie Boy & The Blues Express, a New England-based blues band led by frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Frankie Boy Blues joined by Mickey Maguire on bass and drummer Harrison Foti . The groups three core members deliver a unique blend of new blues and cherished covers. Their style ranges from traditional blues to funk, and even a little hip-hop, playing authentic, home-grown south side Chicago roots inspired by Chicago Blues Legend Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson.
The Band proudly earned the title of winner at the 2019 and 2022 Granite State Blues Society Blues Challenge; representing New Hampshire at the International Blues Challenge finals in 2020 and 2023, reaching the semi-finals in the latter year.
Sitting in with Frankie Boy will be New England Blue’s Legend, James Montgomery. Seeing James, up close in an intimate venue will bring a heightened level of excitement to the show. Montgomery, over the years has front the well-known James Montgomery Band, who broke out of the New England region in the early 70’s. James has opened for major acts across the country such as Sly and the Family Stone, Allman Brothers, Aerosmith, Black Oak Arkansas, Electric Light Orchestra, Marshall Tucker Band, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Kiss, Dickie Betts, Dave Mason, Foghat, Bruce Springsteen and many more as well as his years as a featured member of the Johnny Winter Band.
Through the years the James Montgomery Band has featured performers such as Billy Squire, Wayne Kramer (MC5), Scarlett Riveria (Bob Dylan), Jeff Golub (Rod Stewart), David Hull (Joe Perry Project and Marty Richards (J. Geils Band) as members of the band. As well, numerous performers have joined James on stage while in town such as BB King, Buddy Guy, Patti LaBelle, James Cotton, Bonnie Raitt, plus many more.
Rounding out the bill will be the Matt Swanton Band, composed of Matt Swanton, Dave Osoff, Ken Edleman, and Dan Vaccari. Matt Swanton broke into the New England blues scene with the release of his debut album "The Matt Swanton Band," bringing high energy electric guitar to his debut album showcasing 7 tracks steeped in traditional blues, late 60's/early 70's psychedelic rock, and funk. The Matt Swanton Band has been playing music venues all over Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, and was chosen by the Boston Blues Society to represent Massachusetts in the 2023 International Blues Challenge, where they advanced to the semi-finals.
