Details:Join us online Saturday, April 10 from 10:00 – 11:00 am for the lecture, After the Plague, Vocal Music of the High Renaissance, presented by CCM voice faculty member Dr. Greta Feeney. We'll explore the fascinating and impactful influence that the tragic Black Death pandemic in the 1300s had on the arts and the new directions composers took with their music. "Drawing parallels between past and current events help us deepen our sense of our humanity. Exploring the past helps us make sense of the present and how COVID-19 has impacted our lives", says Greta.

You'll learn about Guillaume de Machaut and Francesco Landini, two composers that were dominant figures in music at the time. Marchaut, a significant figure during the transition from the medieval period into the Renaissance, is notable for being the first person to write a polyphonic Mass on his own. His most famous work, the Messe de Nostre Dame. Greta reminds us, "That this transition is not to be taken for granted, for during the plague years, civilization all but came to a halt, and much of recorded history simply ceased or was lost in the relative chaos."

The Zoom link will be sent to registrants beforehand.
