Details:Join us online December 2 from 5:30 - 6:30 pm for what promises to be a fascinating lecture presented by CCM faculty member Peter Evans on Anthony Philip Heinrich, America's Log-Cabin Composer. Heinrich was a Bohemian immigrant who, having lost his business fortune in Europe, came to the U.S. to reinvent himself as a conductor and violinist.

Starting in the northeast, Heinrich traveled 300 miles on foot through Pennsylvania and an additional 400 miles down the Ohio River. In 1820 he was living in a Kentucky log cabin, musing on his neighbors and surroundings while practicing the violin and piano. Teaching himself composition, he wrote his Op. 1, The Dawning of Music in Kentucky. It is full of songs, etudes, dances, sonatas, and versions of Yankee Doodle. His surroundings and journey to remote Kentucky inspired a collection of works unlike anything previously composed in Europe.

You will learn Heinrich's life and connections to other notable American naturalists, including John James Audubon, the specifics from his magnum opus, from the types of compositions to the way it looks on paper. While discussing Heinrich, Mr. Evans will also shed light on this most intriguing time in American history.
