| Details: | Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro Baseball Leagues, now works collecting trash in 1957 Pittsburgh.
Excluded from the major leagues in his prime, Troy has grown increasingly bitter. In a small dirt yard fronting his house, a baseball bat leans against a tree.
Troy owes his house to his brother Gabriel, a veteran who sustained a serious head wound in World War II resulting in permanent injury to his mind.
Tough and uncompromising, struggling to provide for his family, Troy's anger and frustration damage his relationships with his teenage son Cory and his wife Rose.
Cory leaves the home to join the military and Rose rises above Troy's marriage betrayal in a striking and poignant declaration.
