Details:CAT Trio features Carmen Staaf on piano, Austin McMahon on drums, and Tony Scherr on bass. They'll be playing original compositions by all three, drawing on a wide range of influences: classical piano repertoire, Monk, Afro-Cuban sounds, singer-songwriter and rock music lineages, and beyond.

This band, which made its debut in a Mandorla Music-produced virtual performance in 2021, represents new growth from deep roots. Carmen and Tony play in together in such bands as Boom Tic Boom, Science Fair and Parlour Game. Austin and Carmen have collaborated for many years, including playing on Dana Sandler's recent 'I Never Saw Another Butterfly' and on each other's records, and in such varied performance settings as grinding out several sets a night on a cruise ship and accompanying classical Indian dance.

More about the performers:

Pianist/composer Carmen Staaf is a rising force in the NYC and global jazz scenes, and has performed and recorded with some of the most influential and important musicians of our era at iconic venues such as the Village Vanguard, Blue Note, SFJazz and major jazz festivals around the world including the Newport, Monterey, Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals, among many others. She serves as musical director for Dee Dee Bridgewater and has notably performed in a two-piano setting with the legendary Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, at Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and at the Kennedy Center alongside Kenny Barron and Fred Hersch.

In addition to being one of the most in-demand working drummers on the Boston scene, Austin McMahon has performed and/or recorded with Sean Jones, George Garzone, Joe Lovano, Lionel Loueke, Ben Monder, Lage Lund, Kate McGarry, Noah Preminger, Jason Palmer and Grace Kelly. He has appeared as an opening act for Grammy award-winners Dianne Reeves and Esperanza Spalding.

Since moving to NYC in the mid 80s, bassist Tony Scherr has worked extensively with many top artists across genres, including Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Ani DiFranco, Ana Egge, Allison Miller, Lounge Lizards, Sex Mob, Norah Jones, and others.
