|[A] documentary that is as weird today as it was when it first hit the shelvesRegardless of what [this legendary wrestler] was truly like as a person, the fact that his former employers released a whole film about how much everyone hated him is truly bizarre. -The Sportster
In 2005, the worlds largest professional wrestling promotion released a documentary about one of its biggest former stars that fans and critics would describe as biased, one sided, and self serving.
Allegedly, a top-tier talent threatened to no-show a pay-per-view in the summer of 1991 unless he was paid an additional $500,000. Not wanting to put the main event in jeopardy, management reluctantly agreed to the demands and indefinitely suspended the superstar immediately after.
Nearly 15 years later, that promotion would put out a documentary that many considered to be a hit piece, burying a performer many considered to be a staple of their childhood. Nearly 10 years after that, he was welcomed back to join his spot in the hall of fame, just before his untimely death shortly after and this film was subsequently erased from all digital archives.
