Details: | Exhibiting artist Carlos Rosales-Silva speaks on his artistic practice and his most recent mural, Border Destroyer, at the University Art Museum. Born on the border of the United States and Mexico in El Paso, Texas, Rosales-Silva's studio practice examines the vernacular culture of the American Southwest, the Western canon of art history, and the political and cultural connections and disparities between them. Join us for refreshments and an insightful artist talk.
Rosales-Silva has exhibited extensively across the United States and Mexico. He has participated in artist residencies at the Bemis Center in Omaha, Nebraska (2024), Abrons Art Center in New York, NY (2021), Residency Unlimited in New York, NY (2020), Artpace in San Antonio, Texas (2018), and Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, NY (2017). Recent group exhibitions include shows at the Latinx Project at NYU, Texas Tech University, Penn State University, Beverlys in New York, NY, and North Loop Gallery in Williamstown, MA. In 2023, Sargent's Daughters presented his solo exhibition titled Border Logic at their Los Angeles gallery and featured a solo booth at the Armory Show in New York City.
Rosales-Silva holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts and is represented by Sargent's Daughters in Los Angeles and New York City and by Ruiz-Healy Art in Texas. He currently resides and works in New York, NY.
