Details: In the mid 90’s while bands like Nirvana, Green Day, and Beastie Boys were breaking out into the musical landscape the Groovenics started playing small clubs in South Florida. With the independent Release of “Wedgie Fever” in 1997 the heavy grunge, punk, and hip hop blend of music that make up the Groovenics sound found an audience and radio support in their home town. In the late 90’s early 00’s a deal with Spitfire records was struck at the height of the nu-metal boom. The release of their 2001 self-titled album was received with mixed reviews by those who found the band a bit hard to classify. The label wanted a nu-metal band, but instead got a band that didn’t drop tune or shy away from soft melodic songs, upbeat rock, funk, or electronica. The hip hop rock influence was only one part of a band that drew influences from more than what was expected during that time. The fight between what the band wanted to play and the management resulted in the band breaking up for a decade. After a sold-out show in their hometown the band quietly started discussing making music again, but without any outside influence or expectations from labels. After self-producing “Vacation Metal” a full length album independently recorded in a garage the band has been busy with what matters most; raising their families. Music is not a job, it is an art-form, and it’s a vacation from doing your job; that’s how vacation metal was born. The Groovenics have become what they’ve always sought out to be; themselves. In a time where almost every band strives to sound more and more like their classification, Groovenics have continued to break away from classifications by blending various genres into a unique sound that creates a live show where people from all walks of life can let loose and enjoy themselves. Their albums continue to be a refreshing taste of the unexpected.
