Details:Mark your Calendars! Friends of Springfield Armory invite you to celebrate past and present workers of Springfield at our free event, Worker Weekend, on Saturday, September 7th and Sunday September 8th, 2024 from 10am to 4pm at the Springfield Armory National Historic Site.

Worker Weekend highlights the former Armory workers and their legacy with indoor and outdoor activities for all ages on the picturesque grounds of the Armory. Join us for special labor history programming, temporary exhibits, demonstrations of the historical craftsmanship by local fabricators, hands-on workshops, and refreshments as we honor the workers and their families who made the Springfield Armory a success. See attached flyer for details and contact information.

If you, a family member or friend worked at the Springfield Armory before its closure in 1968, you are invited to a special reception for former workers and their families on Sunday, 9\/8 at Worker Weekend. Please message us or scan the QR code in the flyer if youre interested in participating in the reception!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

On Saturday 9\/7 from 10am-4pm there will be all-day demonstrations of 19th century Blacksmithing and cooking with John and Maureen Richards, hands-on threading and machining with the Museum of Our Industrial Heritage, Firearms deconstruction with historical firearm experts, and a live demonstration of a 18th century barrel rifler machine, as well as a kids activities station. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the days events!

Our timed events on Saturday include:

10am Blank Firing of Historical weapons
10:30am Map-Making Activity for kids with Ranger Tom in the museum
10:30am Presentation on the Springfield Armory Watershops with Ranger Carl in the theater at 10:30am
12pm Labor History at the Springfield Armory with Ranger Wes in the theater
12pm A 45 minute Walking Tour of the grounds with Ranger Carl
2pm Blank Firing of Historical Weapons
AND from 2pm-4pm our Big Band Concert with Heritage Pops Orchestr
