| Details: | The Ma & Pa Railroad Heritage Village is a living history museum at Muddy Creek Forks PA that highlights the central role of the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad in every aspect of village life in the early 20th century. Our museum includes a large general store that also housed the Post Office and railroad station, a mill, a grain elevator, several other historic buildings, and 3.6 miles of railroad through the Muddy Creek Valley. Volunteers in period costume welcome the public in the roles of store clerk, station agent, historical interpreters in the store and mill, village tour guides, and train operators.
We are looking for new volunteers to serve in all of these positions. Our volunteer training day (Docent Day) on May 14th is a great opportunity for newcomers to explore the possibility of volunteering at the Ma & Pa Railroad Heritage Village. Three main ingredients to be a successful docent include desire to learn and accurately convey the history of the railroad and village, ability to interact informally with visitors, and commitment to serve at least once each month during the operating season. Newcomers and experienced docents will review basic principles of working with the public and learn about the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad, the village of Muddy Creek Forks, and how the railroad transformed the lives of our great grandparents a century ago.
