Details: | Atlanta Freedom Bands celebrates the 50th anniversary of Earth Day with a globe-spanning concert and an informative presentation. The evening begins with an engaging talk on topics in Earth and climate science. Then science meets art as AFB's Concert Band takes the stage with majestic music that evokes the beauty of our planet and the cultures that inhabit it.
The concert selections feature pieces that highlight scenes and music from all seven of our planet's continents. The program takes the audience on a journey from the frosty mountains of Antarctica to the Australian outback and from Carnival in Sao Paulo to the newly discovered eighth continent of Zealandia.
AFB Student Composer Residency Program continues with our first work from a high school composer. River Prescott of Chattahoochee High School has composed a new piece "Frigid" that captures the challenge of existence in frozen climates.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors, and $10 for students.
The concert will also stream live from AFB's YouTube channel.
The pre-concert talk begins at 7 PM, followed by the concert at 8 PM.
The concert program includes:
"Fanfare for the Third Planet" by Richard Saucedo
"From Dawn to Dusk" by Graham Lloyd
"Nimrod" from the "Enigma Variations" by Edward Elgar
"Sailing!" by Yukiko Nishimura
"Frigid" by River Prescott
