Details: | The 3rd Saturday Voices of the Past presentation, Conquering the Counter: The Augusta Civil Rights Movement is re-enacted by IdaLease Cummings. Instead of portraying a specific person, the Augusta Civil Rights Activist is a conglomerate of many different people who took part in the local Civil Rights Movement. The character is a Paine College student remembering Jim Crow Augusta and training for the H.L. Green Department Store Lunch counter sit-ins in downtown Augusta in 1960. The presentation takes place in the Transportation Corridor under the HL Green sign that formerly designated the entrance for colored people on Ellis Street at the back of the store. The presentations, which are free with Museum admission, are scheduled for 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30.
