Details: | For over two millennia, paper has been an essential medium for cultural exchange, storytelling, and artistic innovation. Originating in ancient China and central to poetry, painting, and calligraphy, it has since evolved beyond these practices as artists have explored the medium through numerous traditional and experimental modalities. From the refined craft of washi-making in Japan to the adaptability of recycled materials in contemporary practice, artists across generations and geographies have continued to push the boundaries of this fragile yet resilient material. Infinite Possibilities brings together eleven regional and international artists who transform paper in unexpected ways; lifting it beyond the two-dimensional plane to explore its potential as a conduit for history, memory, and identity. Though delicate, paper possesses immense strength—serving as a tool for documentation, resistance, and healing. For centuries, the American Asian Hawaiian Native/Pacific Islander (AAHNPI) community has faced discrimination and marginalization, yet the artists in this exhibition reclaim paper as an act of resilience and defiance. In their hands, this fragile medium becomes a powerful testament to survival, transformation, and love as an intentional force against hate.
