| Details: | Early detection saves lives.
How do scientists identify a dangerous pathogen hidden within complex genetic data? Through metagenomic sequencinga powerful approach that analyzes all DNA or RNA in a sample to detect emerging threats quickly and accurately.
Join us for a Biomolecular Sciences Seminar with Dr. Boris Vinatzer from Virginia Tech:
Making Sense of Nonsense: Opportunities and Challenges of Metagenomics for Pathogen Identification
Metagenomic sequencing was instrumental in identifying and sequencing SARS-CoV-2 in January 2020, enabling the rapid development of PCR tests and vaccines. Today, researchers are expanding this approach to detect pathogens affecting humans, animals, and plants.
In this seminar, Dr. Vinatzer will introduce the core concepts behind metagenomic pathogen identification and discuss the challenges that must be addressed to make this technology routine, reliable, and fasthighlighting examples from bacterial and fungal plant diseases.
Join us to explore how complex genetic data can become actionable insight.
