Start off your weekend with a tranquil walk in the woods alongside some cool people and even cooler birds.
Who Are Puleston's Vagabonds
Dennis Puleston was a naval architect, a naturalist, and an environmental pioneer who first raised the alarm about osprey and eagles being driven to extinction by the pesticide DDT. He also wrote Blue Water Vagabond: Six Years Adventure at Sea, a wonderful book about his journey as a young man, sailing the seven seas on a small sailboat. Dennis eventually settled on Long Island, and became one of the founders of the Environmental Defense Fund, one of the worlds first organizations dedicated to protecting the environment. CEED is proud to say that his family supports our work, and we are preserving part of his personal library. Our trails run on Suffolk County green space that has been called the Dennis Puleston Preserve.
In honor of Dennis Pulestons connections to our mission, we call our informal Saturday morning walks to see birds and other wildlife Pulestons Vagabonds. Join us in connecting with nature and honoring the memory and the dream of a lover of nature and an environmental pioneer through bird watching.
