A Hall of Famer and the All-Time Hits leader of Montclair State University, Coach Conway went on to be a hitting instructor at the collegiate level for 13 seasons. Understanding that hitting is a mental battle as well as physical, Conway adapted his college devised programs to be most beneficial for younger athletes. With a firm belief in proper practice and muscle memory, this 8 week circuit training will not only produce obvious visual results, but is built to enhance the mind and mental toughness of each hitter.

Our Drills include but are not limited to:

Tee Work – The most essential of all hitting tools, the tee can help correct the swing with proper repetition. As said by one of our coaches, Leon Shade, “the tee isn’t alive but it talks to you.” Our coaches work with each individual to correct personal flaws in the swing itself.

Mirror Work – Within our facility, we have a large 6 foot wide mirror which we utilize for visual purposes and body control. Muscle memory is crucial and getting the body into a proper ‘hitting position’ every time is necessary. By actually seeing the body move, corrections can be made faster and more effectively without even swinging the bat.

Front Toss – Front toss is utilized by coaches everywhere and gets the hitters eyes working by ‘tracking the ball.’ Many drills are performed throughout this program in order to maximize the hitter’s ability to track the baseball (keep their eye on the ball). As Coach Conway likes to say, “If you can’t see it, you can’t hit it.”

Pitching Machine – As our hitters develop and get older, it is crucial to keep advancing and challenging themselves. With the use of a brand-new pitching machine, our hitters will be able to see curve balls, change-ups, sliders, you name it. Timing is everything when it comes to hitting the ball hard and being consistent. Our coaches will feed the pitching machine and supervise, while working with one hitter at a time. The goal is to maintain proper timing and balance no matter what pitch the hitter sees.

Batting Practice – Batting Practice, or ‘BP’, is taken every single day in the game of baseball. We teach batting practice in a sequence that will be seen as your child grows within the game. While some people just ‘swing the bat’ during practice, we have a structured format and purpose to each and every round we take inside the batting cage.
