Details: | Glass is a contradictory material; it is both hot and cold, liquid and solid, strong and fragile, transparent, and opaque. Historically, glassmaking was primarily limited to factories full of trained male glassworkers producing multiples of the same object. In the 1960s the American studio glass movement left the creatively confining production factories and entered the contemporary art scene. Focusing now on one of a kind objects that highlight the unique qualities of glass through form, function, and color, the early years of the movement set the tone for creative exploration of the material and its artistic capabilities. Today’s modern studio glass movement now consists of a diverse grouping of people and perspectives.
