| Details: | In 1969, just weeks after the Stonewall riots, Atlanta made its own stand. A police raid on a screening of Lonesome Cowboys—Andy Warhol’s queer Western—targeted LGBTQ+ Atlantans and helped ignite Georgia’s modern queer liberation movement. That moment gave rise to the Georgia Gay Liberation Front and helped inspire what would become Atlanta Pride.
This program marks the remembrance of the Lonesome Cowboys police raid—a historic event that ignited the Southern queer rights movement. This landmark event serves as a testament to the transformative power of art. This summit & fellowship are designed to continue that spirit by teaching artists how to use their voices to drive social movements. Through film, discussion, and community reflection, we’ll honor the legacy of queer resistance in the South. |
