Leni Sinclair, born Magdalene Arndt, is an American photographer and radical political activist who lives in Detroit. She has photographed rock and jazz musicians since the early 1960s. She was the co-founder of the White Panther Party along with John Sinclair and Pun Plamondon. Sinclair is a recognized leader of the 1960s–70s counter-cultural movement in Detroit, which she amply documented through vivid and dramatic photography. But she may be best known for capturing the raucous rock n’ roll scene of that era, including photographs of such rock legends as Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and jazz icons such as Miles Davis and Sun Ra.
Doug Coombe is an Ann Arbor and Detroit based music and editorial photographer. Documenter of the world's best music scene for 20 years. Photographer for Detroit's Metro Times since 1999. Photographer for Concentrate Media and Urban Innovation Exchange Detroit. Clients Rolling Stone, Spin, Billboard, NME, Mojo, Wax Poetics, The Wire, Sub Pop Records, Ghostly Records and Michigan Radio.
Brian Rozman is a Detroit musician-turned-photographer with sharp instincts for capturing the energy of a moment. In a flash that captures beauty from a blur of movement, Rozman creates iconic images of Detroit's music scene and beyond. His photos have been featured in the Detroit Metro Times, Hour Magazine, album art, and in national publications. He's asked to speak at the University of Michigan to aspiring photography students and featured at the Ferndale Public Library. He shoots daily and always strives to explore new photo capture techniques while exploring and uncovering Detroit's unique artistic voices.
Biba Bell is a dancer and choreographer whose work intersects a highly visual and visceral space between architecture and the body, focusing on dance’s relationship to domesticity, gender, and modernism. Biba’s work has been presented internationally, including at Kunstlerhaus Bremen (Germany), Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Cranbrook Art Museum, and in a Mies van der Rohe apartment in Detroit’s Lafayette Park. Biba earned her PhD in Performance Studies from NYU and teaches at Wayne State University. Of her dancing, Gia Kourlas of the New York Times noted, “It’s invigorating to watch someone who borders on wild.”
