The Shinn family came to California shortly after California became a state. The family had an early nursery and later a fruit ranch. The Shinn House was built between 1866-1876. A docent will guide you through the house and tell you about the family. The Shinn family was important in many ways in the development of the Washington Township and California – the early nurseries, water district, child psychology field, development of horticulture, forestry, and agriculture. Before or after your tour, visit the beautiful gardens with historic trees and a 1983 Japanese garden. The Shinn family came to California shortly after California became a state.
