Details: | Due South: Ke Francis and Hoopsnake Press is built around seven of Ke Francis’ books that exemplify his work as a narrative artist living and working in the South. The first four books in the exhibition, Dixie Compass, Jugline, Hunting the Crested Snipe, and Rock and a Hard Place, represent his visual interpretations of the Southern storytelling tradition. For example, Jugline is a variation of an old Southern folk tale about a walking catfish. The three remaining books, Pilgrim’s Process, Penumbra, and Celestial Hitchhikers focus on themes of travel, exploration, and discovery. Celestial Hitchhikers tells the short story of a young hitchhiker’s experience of the road and serves as a monument to Jack Kerouac. The exhibition will include both bound books and loose illustrations, with a total of 15 works on view.
