Yin Yoga was originally introduced by in the 1970's by Paulie Zink. The practice is designed to remove unnecessary tension from fascia and empower the practitioner to sit longer, and more comfortably, in meditation. The practice focuses on the area around the joints of the body. It is a passive practice and involves variations of floor based postures that are typically held for 3 to 10 minutes.

Yin Yoga has been shown to have many mental and physical benefits. This 36hr level 1 training will provide a strong foundation and deep insights into what yin yoga is, its benefits, contraindications, anatomy, assisting, propping, theming, storytelling, intro to meridians, and the role of emotions in our body. The course will review over 30 yin yoga poses in great detail.

All students are suggested to bring the book YinSights by Bernie Clark.

At the end of this course, existing Yoga teachers and teachers in training will have a strong foundation to begin teaching yin yoga style classes. Non-teacher students will have gained a deeper understanding about their own practice, including modifying postures to fit one's own needs for wellness and safety. Level 1 may be followed by Levels 2, 3 and 4 in sequential order.

Upon completion of this course, graduates who are enrolled (not auditing) will receive a 36 hour Yin Yoga Level 1 Teaching Certificate from Kula Kamala Foundation. Auditing students are not provided with certificates or Certification.

This program is eligible for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education credits in all categories.

Swamini Shraddhananda Saraswati

Swamini Ji is the founder and primary spiritual teacher of Kula Kamala Foundation, a 501c3 public charity and spiritual institution.

SwaminiJi began offering ministry within her community about thirteen years ago. Her path to ministry was activated and empowered by her growing understanding of the universal teachings Advaita Vedanta and Tantra, her practice of Yoga and her own path of healing. The basis of her practice was and is to explore faith and what it means to be human, to be spiritual, to suffer, and to heal. Through education and experience, SwaminiJi integrates the methods she has studied into a very unique offering of service and learning, which intends to reduce suffering, reduce harm, empower potential, and celebrate unity.

With thousands of hours of advanced study in Spirituality, Yoga, Yoga Psychology, Positive Psychology, and Vedic Counseling, SwaminiJi has been honored to serve a diverse array of individuals and communities. These include, but are not limited to typical students of all ages, mental health staff and their clients, at-risk youth and their families, individuals with special needs, patients in and out of hospitals, and hospital staff.

Some of SwaminiJi's early work included her authoring two hospital based Yoga Therapy programs, where she provided bedside spiritual counsel, education and guidance in Yoga, meditation, relaxation, and related holistic techniques. She worked with middle and high school students who were placed in a special needs private school (Ocean Academy, Bayville NJ) where she collaborated with Principal Scott Corbett, to bring her holistically based YAMA (Yoga for Mental Acuity) program into their school day and into their life. She worked with gang members on conflict resolution and mindfulness. On several occasions, her service brought her to the bedside of the terminally ill and dying.

More recently, SwaminiJi authored a mindfulness protocol (IAM. I Am Mindful) for children identified in elementary and middle school as exhibiting behaviors that could become troublesome if not addressed. That program is entering its second year at Oley Valley Elementary School in Oley PA and was also offered at the Amanda Stout Elementary School in Reading. She also served as a Chaplain at Albright College in Reading, PA, where she continues to offering programs to students, staff, alumni, and faculty.

An educator, a leader, and a spiritual figure, Swamini Shraddhananda Saraswati Ji has provided spiritual programming at five colleges in New Jersey, both as Continuing Education course work and as credit based courses. She has also offered numerous conferences and workshops. In 2015, she had the opportunity to present her work titled "Empowering the World from Within" at the Monmouth University Global Understanding Conference: Practicing Non-Violence in a Violent World. SwaminiJi has brought mindfulness based spirituality to medical, social work, Yoga, mindfulness, and therapy conferences. She says “Doing what I can to nurture the spiritual and religious life of those I serve is my inspiration and my dedication. Supporting people from all walks of life in their search for spiritual clarity, health and wellness, in their life and in their relationships, is my calling.”

In her experience, SwaminiJi has found that collaborating with leaders and practitioners of diverse traditions empowers diverse communities to co-exist more peacefully and thrive more effectively. She says “We have so much more to offer each other than fear, violence and separation. When we see each other through the lens of compassion and unity, we empower greater more inclusive solutions to everyday stressors and to the larger problems that are so very present in our world and society."

Having worked spiritually alongside students, children, adults, doctors, professors, teachers, administrators, case workers, and the military, she has a plethora of knowledge, experience and insight. Her ministry work began about 13 years ago. Her experience and knowledge as a teacher, guide and advisor are grounded in over three decades of education, application, experience, and research. She holds five academic degrees and several certificates in the holistic field. Personally and professionally, she abides in principles and guidelines that begin with non-harming, empathy and compassionate discipline and that culminate in health, wellness, happiness, and spiritual connection.

In addition to the above, SwaminiJi, together with Edward RamChandra Allitt, co-Founded Kula Kamala Yoga Ashram, a space of spiritual inquiry and ministry.

SwaminiJi's degrees include AAS Paralegal Technology, BA Political Science, BS Evolutionary Anthropology, MA Anthropology, PhD in Anthropology (expertise Biological Anthropology). She has held the position of Professor of Yoga and Meditation (Georgian Court University) and Professor of Cultural and Evolutionary Anthropology (Temple University and Monmouth University) and she has published scholarly articles on ancient diet and it's relationship to health, disease and socio-political issues.

SwaminiJi enjoys self expression, creativity and being in nature. An artist in several mediums, she writes daily and has recently self published her third book of spiritual poetry and reflection titled 30 Days.

Swamini Shraddhananda Saraswati took her Sannyasin vows on the banks of the Holy Mother Ganges River on November 5, 2019. The rites where administered by her Beloved Guru, Swami AdhyatmanandaJi.
