The Twin Cities is home to a vibrant Irish music scene, anchored by the acclaimed Center for Irish Music and Celtic Junction, and sustained by several dedicated, high-energy session groups playing around town. We've also hosted our share of Irish music, and claim a bit of Irish history ourselves (see last article below); but this summer we're going at it hammer and tongs! From June 24 to September 2, Waldmann's \"Late Night Irish\" music series brings traditional Irish music here every Wednesday night starting at 8:30pm--and we're extending our hours as long as the music lasts. The series is organized with the help of Brian Miller, an accomplished guitarist, bouzouki player and singer who has toured North America and Ireland with Bua, Danny Diamond and other traditional Irish music groups, and currently performs with Northern Shores and Two Tap Trio. Brian is a longtime instructor at the Center for Irish Music, has earned multiple grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board supporting his research into the Irish-influenced music of Midwestern lumberjacks, and hosts the deeply researched blog Northwoods Songs and weekly Shamrock Shore radio program on Jazz88.fm. In assembling the performers for Late Night Irish, Brian has drawn from a diverse and highly talented pool of traditional Irish musicians from around the region for each performance.
