Details: | Timeless Mucha: The Magic of Line explores the career of Art Nouveau pioneer Alphonse Mucha (1860 – 1939) and his impact on art since the 1960s. Born in Ivancice, Moravia in the Austrian Empire, Mucha rose to acclaim as an illustrator and designer and became one of the most influential and recognizable Czech artists of his generation. His images for the theater, especially his portraits of the iconic Sarah Bernhardt style, earned him international acclaim. Mucha’s unparalleled influence on Art Nouveau art and design would have a lasting legacy on contemporary artists after 1960, beginning with the psychedelic album covers of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and the Rolling Stones. Comic book legends such as Stan Lee would also find inspiration in Mucha, as would the artists of Japanese manga, and contemporary street artists. Timeless Mucha: The Magic of Line offers an engaging survey of the artist and his enduring appeal.
