| Details: | Take a leap and learn the fundamentals of Argentine social tango!
Learn from an instructor with many years of teaching and dance experience from all over the country. Matt has been dancing Argentine tango since 2011 and teaching regularly since 2018. He is proficient in and teaches both lead and follow roles, in both close and open embrace styles. Plus, we are often assisted by the talented May Vang, to help show how movements work and help with individual instruction.
Tango is about having the agency to be an individual AND having connection with another person. It is your uniqueness as much as your practice of movement with another person that makes tango the best social dance.
Classes will cycle through 5 must-know step sequences that are packed with fundamental skill learning opportunities: backward ochos, going to the cross in cross system, the ocho cortado, rock step turn to the left which ends up in backward ochos, and turn to the left from backward ochos that ends up in parallel system. With each cycle of classes dancers will hone and improve their abilities to dance each movement.
Approximately every 6th week we will test our ability to dance tango's Basic Eight sequence in an enjoyable manner! It's not just a box! And it's not just stepping!
Dancers will learn both lead and follow roles, where any gender will partner with any gender. Rotations will be used to dance with multiple partners. Learning both roles makes better dancers and has the added bonus of always being role balanced!
This is a safe learning environment where all are welcome. Respect for everyone is required. We dance human to human and cultivate deep connection, the most important quality of Argentine tango. We invest in decades-long dance relationships now because that is how long you will enjoy Argentine tango!
