Details: | Sashiko (pronounced: Saa-She-Koh, not Sash-eye-ko) is an antique Japanese hand embroidery technique used by peasant and lower class workers to provide warmth to clothing and decoration at the same time. It was traditionally done on 2 layers of indigo (dark) fabrics with a thick thread and no batting. Sashiko history and patterns will be discussed in class. Ive taught this class since 2004 and its resurgence and adaptation to quilting are heartening as its a very flexible technique.
Kits with fabric, thread, needles, and patterns will be included in the class fee. The class project will be an 18 X 24 sampler of patterns suitable for a pillow, table centerpiece or incorporation into an apron or other piece of clothing.
A student supply list will be provided with class payment. $30 per class or $50 for two Sashiko classes (hand and machine) on the same day. See link for more information: https:\/\/quilttallahassee.com\/event\/sashiko-by-hand-taught-by-pam-doffek\/?instance_id=1033 |
