Origins and Traditions (Inside Morris Art Gallery) Through a special exhibit on loan from the Chicago Field Museum, A Celebration of Souls: Day of the Dead in Southern Mexico delves into the origins of Dia De Los Muertos and its traditions, such as building ofrendas (altars) to honor deceased loved ones, creating elaborate sugar skulls, and decorating graves with marigolds. Visitors will learn about the symbolism behind these customs and how they are passed down through generations. Through artifacts, multimedia displays, and interactive elements, visitors can learn about the diverse beliefs and practices surrounding death and the afterlife and gain a deeper understanding of the universal human experience of mourning and remembrance.
This exhibition was developed by The Field Museum in collaboration with Mars, Incorporated.
