PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Responsible for generating first mortgage loans and achieving sales goals through solicitation of third party referrals and participation in business development activities. Ability to meet with members and realtors after hours and on weekends are a must.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Network with external clients and develop relationships with local realtors, builders and developers in order to generate external, new mortgage business from various referral sources; customarily and regularly engaged away from the credit union’s place(s) of business.
• Attend open houses with local realtors.
• Originate accurate home and consumer loan applications in accordance with company policy and in compliance with banking laws and regulatory guidelines.
• Meet with members to explain loan programs, evaluate their needs and assist them in completing mortgage and consumer applications.
• Maintain communication with members, as appropriate, regarding application requests, loan status, loan approval/denials and other member concerns.
• Cross sell other Credit Union products and services to members.
• Conduct marketing within assigned territory to improve market share in the area.
• Actively call established network of referrals for solicitation purposes and maintain their calling program throughout employment.
• Work closely with the lending staff (particularly processors, underwriters and closers) to ensure that the loan applications are fully completed, that the necessary supporting documentation is received and that the loans close as scheduled.
• Contribute to high member satisfaction scores through superior service and follow up.
• Act as a Mortgage Loan Originator as defined by the SAFE Act, fulfilling all requirements to maintain an active federal registration in the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS)
• Maintain community involvement and participate in special projects such as First Time Home Buyer seminars and Realtor Events, as needed.
• Adhere to all applicable policies, procedures and regulations.
• Stay current on job related equipment, procedures and information via attendance at meetings and seminars, webinars and reading various memos, handouts and publications.
• Perform miscellaneous duties including, but not limited to, typing, filing and data entry, as requested.
PREREQUISITES:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Experience: 2-3 years of job-related experience in a mortgage lending environment; knowledge of residential, FNMA, FHA and non-conforming loans, as well as general loan processing, policies and procedures. Underwriting experience preferred.
Skills: Strong communication, organization, presentation and time-management skills; demonstrated sales ability. Must be able to meet with potential borrowers and realtors after hours and on weekends.
Traits: Ability to perform detailed work in an accurate, organized and efficient manner; work well independently and with others in a team-oriented environment; ability to exercise judgement and make decisions and/or recommendations; dependable and loyal; self-starter who is willing to take initiative, innovate and be creative to improve departmental operation and member service.
