Description: |
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council is seeking a Full Stack Web Developer to build digital tools that will create a more sustainable and equitable region. MAPC is offering a two-year position with possible conversion to a long- term position. This position is part of the Digital Services team, a group with an established track record of successful products (https://www.mapc.org/learn/data-tools/) that visualize complex information, improve planning processes, and modernize municipal operations. At MAPC you will work on important issues like housing, transportation, social equity, climate change, and economic development.
Recent MAPC projects include:
• Youth Match – a platform used by City to place over 3,000 young people into summer jobs
• DataCommon – MAPC's custom-built data portal that opens up nearly 400 datasets to the public so that members of the public have the information they need to participate in shaping their communities
• Builds – a tool to inventory and share information on over 4,000 housing and commercial developments in the state to aid in future planning processes
• Build data-driven web applications with a multi-disciplinary team
• Collaborate with government staff and municipal planning professionals to invent, implement and deploy systems and improvements to existing technology
• Work with a product team to ensure digital services meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders and end users
• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, CSS, HTML
• Experience working with geospatial data and database structure (geoJSON, Shapefiles, PostGIS)
• Familiarity with geospatial software tools like Leaflet, Carto, Mapbox, QGIS, ArcMap
• Experience working with small teams on software projects
• Experience working in an agile development environment
The following are additional desired qualifications for the position:
• Proficiency in JavaScript data visualization libraries like d3.js
• Proficiency in React.js, Ember.js or similar framework
• Proficiency in GIS, cartography or spatial analysis
• Experience contributing to collaborative open source projects
• Experience in test-driven development
• Graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, Computer Science, Interaction Design, Urban Information Systems, Human Computer Interaction, or a related field strongly preferred
This is a full time exempt position (37.5 hours/week) for a two-year term with possible conversion to a long-term position. The starting salary ranges from $65,000 to $75,000 annually. |
