Description: |
We are looking to hire a part-time Book Content/Production Assistant. The ideal candidate for this position is an excellent communicator with enthusiasm, flexibility, extreme attention to detail and efficient organizational skills. This person will work with many different areas of the company to keep the production of our high volume of projects moving forward. This position assists in all areas of production including content research and preparation, editing and proofreading, management of digital assets, and reviewing of print files, press proofs and printed samples. It is important that the right candidate has a personal interest in and understanding of historical content, and how that can be replicated and revitalized for today's readers.
Responsibilities:
•Communicate consistently with the Applewood team, as well as work closely with outside vendors and customers, to keep everyone informed of the status of projects and to maintain production schedules.
•Assist in producing projects and trafficking through every stage from concept to manufactured book arriving to our warehouse.
•Assist in obtaining manufacturing costs, preparing purchase orders, and requesting print file corrections needed.
•Proofread and fact check content as needed, and research to ensure historical accuracy of content.
•Review and circulate page proofs, printer's proofs and book components, checking all details, corrections, and obtaining necessary approvals.
•Create and update product and vendor records using database software
•Problem solve, streamline and consistently improve complex workflows.
•Assist in preparation of content for marketing materials, including catalogs, and checking all metadata meticulously.
•Assist in managing digital assets, uploading files to vendors, distributing for website and marketing, organizing resources to work in line with our processes and managing our archives.
•Perform administrative functions when needed.
Qualifications:
•Ability to prioritize tasks and juggle multiple projects at once in a self-directed way is critical.
•Excellent problem-solving skills are a must.
•Some knowledge of how to use Adobe Creative Suite, predominantly InDesign and Photoshop is preferred.
•Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and in using database software and FTPs.
•Should be enthusiastic to learn in all areas of publishing.
•Excellent communication, writing and proofreading skills a must, along with organization skills and attention to detail.
